It is the moon – update.

Hey people…Here’s this week’s update.

I obviously will work on regulating the tree scale. But the idea is pretty much here. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to work on this throughout the week, this is what I managed to do over the weekend. I will try and get more this week.

And like always, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this one.

It is the moon. (work in progress)

Like I promised last week, I am pushing to be more productive and here’s this week’s update.

It is the Moon. It comes to our homes once in many nights. It comes all the from the edge of the sky, to fill our children’s dreams with joy.

Major Update.

Hey guys, I haven’t posted an update for a very long time now. I’ve been busy for the last several weeks, but very less productive, The saying “Being busy is not the same as being productive” applies 101% to my situation right now. It is about time I change this. So, I thought of plan, something that would keep track of my progress. I will try and commit myself to post an update here at least once a week. Be it work-related or the book that I read during the week, or anything interesting that I learn…Could be anything, but I will try to keep the blog up to date.

Alright, enough blabbering…Here are the updates.

  • Let It Go‘ was nominated into another short film festival under the Animated Short category. This time, it is “Short To The Point“. You can find it listed under –  February 2018 Animation selection.

  • A new illustration is out. I forced myself to finish this one by today. Definitely compromised in terms of quality, but I hope I managed to convey the message. I had to finish it haphazardly, I am trying to give myself deadlines and hit them. Pretty hard to do it, at least for me.

Titled: Adulthood, I wanted to address how the creative side of a person is obscured by the time he/she becomes an adult. I don’t want to explain everything. I’d want to see if it is communicated well. I’d want to know if I made the right choices. I will be glad if you guys can give me your inputs. What you see in it, how you interpret it. It is also a reference to Harry Potter.

Please click on the image below to see the illustration in Artstaion. You can also find progress/steps. I ask you again and again, please let me know what you think about the illustration. It is important for me to know if I am conveying the idea.

  • Speaking of Creativity and Imagination, I managed to finish Michael Crichtons’s “Sphere” last week. An interesting novel, the story takes place at the bottom of an ocean after discovering an unexplained space craft. I have learned a couple of interesting things from this book.

Number one, it is one of the inspirations behind the illustration Adulthood. I don’t want to spoil the story for anyone, but one of the characters talks about how powerful and important our imagination is. And how it influenced us over time.

The other interesting thing I have learned from this book is the concept of “Space-Time“. Michael Crichton did an amazing job explaining how Space-time works. Basically, imagine space to be a plane. An object with certain mass is on this plane and it has certain amount of gravity. Because of this gravity, the plane around the object bends.

Now, if another object is travelling along this plane, and since the plane is curved, the velocity of the travelling object is different at different points , as it gets closer to the primary object, it travels along the bent plane. Which means, the amount of time affected on this travelling object is lesser.

The heavier the object, the stronger the gravity is. And since gravity bends space, the affect of time also changes. (I have a feeling that I made it complicated than it already is). Check the video below. The professor explains it neatly.

So, I guess that is if for now. Like I said, I will try to keep the blog updated. Thanks guys, Cheers!

Painting a Legendary Guru

mahantSwami_15FinalI feel honored to have had an opportunity to make this painting of the Legendary Personality – A great Spiritual teacher – Mahant swami.

Also, this is one of the very important paintings that I have done as I have discovered/developed a technique for which I have been trying for quite a while. I strongly believe that this technique of showing volume through paint strokes (thanks to my life drawing teacher – Brian Hladin) will help my painting process a lot in the future projects.

I will be glad to hear any inputs from you guys.

Let It Go – student short film

After about a year of zero work related updates on my blog, Here it is, my student film produced at Sheridan College.

Let it go is a story about a little girl who is fascinated by the beauty of fireflies, follows them into nearby woods and finds a jar. What happens next depends on if she decides to keep the jar of fireflies for herself or let them go.

Thanks to my Family for the incredible support! I could have done absolutely nothing without them. And of course my faculty here at school. They constantly amaze me!!!!

Thanks to all my friends. You guys are inspiring! The levels of dedication each of you have is crazy!!

I should also thank Vasista Ram, my composer. His music took the film to a whole new level. I can not thank you enough.

And finally thanks to every single person who helped my make this film.

Although I could have done a better job with the animation part, I am pretty happy with the result. While working on this film I faced many situations where I felt like I bit off more than what I can chew! Each individual has to go through every single step in making an Animated film, from writing the Script to the final Comp. As the complexity increases, the number of hour we put into making it increases and I remember when some of us had to stay at school for days.  But, I was able to pull it off.

If I get a chance to go back an develop something, it would be the character animation, as I can see many errors already, followed by the firefly dynamics.

I am always open for reviews and inputs. Please let me know what you think of the film.

I hope the story is conveyed well and you like it.
